Carolien is founder and partner of bureau M.E.S.T. the urban fertilizer, bureau voor Maatschappelijke Experimentele Stedelijke Transformatie (office for Social Experimental Urban Transformation. Out of Office worked with agency M.E.S.T. for the New Retail Reality Report focusing on the trend ReBalance.
Carolien is expert in strategies towards a sustainable urban transformation. Through a strategic, tactic and operational approach she focuses on implementing social changes in the spatial domain.
She studied Architecture at the University of Technology Delft, and started her professional career in New York at Michael Sorkin Studio. She came back to Holland where she joined Neutelings Riedijk, MVRDV and Rem Koolhaas.
She has been teaching at TU Delft, TU Eindhoven and several academies. In Barcelona she has been director of studies and research partner at IAAC. IAAC is a master institute for postdoc students in architecture. It is a research center which focuses on the implementation of societal changes an technological innovation of the digital era in architecture and urbanism. In 2010 she started bureau M.E.S.T. with her other partners.
