Out Of Office just released ‘The Future Of Retail’ , a visionary research presentation for the Provence of Overijssel.For this project we work with a great number of talented, visual thinking and future positive researchers, ,filmmakers,architects,third-place specialists, Student Graduates etc etc in Amsterdam, Istanbul, Shanghai, New York and Paris to come up with the best practices being around.
Maaike Holvast is a documentary filmmaker from our 404 network in New York and for Out Of Office she made a documentary on ‘Collaborative Consumption.’ This is a documentary on the rise and emergence of co-ops as a result of three developments.
First, governments are loosening control over public spaces. Second, the financial crisis has dramatically reduced confidence in classicfinancing methods (such as mortgages) and pricing methods while increasing difficulty to access products, goods and services. Third, the Internet has brought new energy to collaborative efforts.
The co-op is idea is resonating with people today who have a strong anti-corporate feeling, as a result of the “Wal-Mart effect,” and the realization that something as essential as food can’t be left to big, profit-driven corporations.

Out Of Office is constantly looking for ways to be connected by teaming up with Cultural, industrial, educational and research partners. In 2010, a group of twenty Honors students enrolled in a leadership course in the IIS Honours Program of the Free University of Amsterdam(VU) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA), with the vague description ‘The Learning Lab’.
The students had very diverse backgrounds, from the Singaporean army to anthropology and physics, they applied to explore themselves and their world. Out Of Office teamed up with the designer of this course Thieu Besselink, to provide the studens bucket-load of creative chaos and let the energy flow and inspiration starts.
This documentary – that was directed by Victor van Doorn and Jochem Smit shows the student’s progression from talented scholars, to driven social entrepreneurs and ultimately, directors of their own education.
